Become a Mentor
Mentors are the cornerstone of our program providing direct support, guidance, and friendship to our young participants in DC. Mentors are paired with a mentee, or PEARL, in 6th through 8th grade for the academic year. During the program, mentors will:
Attend an orientation to review program requirements and complete mentorship training.
Receive support and have an opportunity to provide feedback throughout the program.
Attend planned workshops with the PEARLS on various topics to advance self-empowerment, increase confidence, celebrate culture, and build community and friendship.
Develop and maintain a one-on-one relationship with a PEARL to provide direct mentoring.
As mentors, individuals have the opportunity to grow their own leadership ability and share experiences by serving as a role model to build the next generation of leaders. Mentors can have a direct impact in the life of a young person. Contact us to learn more about becoming a mentor and help us make a difference!
Support a Workshop
Mentees attend a series of workshops throughout the program year that build self confidence, expose participants to various topics relevant to youth, provide an opportunity to build life skills, serve the community, and advance personal goals. Examples of past workshops include:
Identifying and discussing personal life goals through interactive group actives including vision boards.
Learning about how to identify and address cyberbully and raising awareness of digital footprints.
Creating care packages for at risk youth and discussing the importance of community and support.
Visiting local museums and exhibits in the District to enhance discussions on cultural pride.
Do you have an idea for a workshop or would you be willing to participate in workshop by leading an interactive session? We are always interested in exposing our mentees to strong role models and and the many diverse paths in education, careers, and personal journeys. Contact us with an idea or questions.
Host a Fundraiser or Donate
The PEARLS program is possible due to the generations contributions from many individuals. Funding directly supports materials and supplies used to implement workshops, interactive team building activities throughout the year, and the end of year celebration for the PEARLS. Our program hosts various fundraising events that you can support and share with a friend.
