Mentors and Mentees


The Role

  • Become a positive role model.

  • Establish and maintain a positive and respectful relationship.

  • Assist with goal setting and identifying paths to achieve goals.

  • Participate in mentoring workshops.

  • Share experiences to build exposure to professional and educational options.


Time Commitment

  • Commit to participate for the full program year (September- May)

  • Attend a one-time orientation session (3 hours).

  • Attend bi-monthly Saturday morning mentoring workshops (3 hours per session).

  • Communicate regularly with mentee on a one-on-one basis.


The Impact

  • Make a difference in the life of a young person by building confidence, exposing them to new possibilities and supporting their dreams.

  • Personal fulfillment in helping to develop our future leaders.

  • Provide program feedback.

  • Become a part of of the PEARLS community and develop lasting memories.


Volunteer mentors make our program possible and can have a lasting impact in the life of young person.  Individuals selected to serve as mentors will be paired with a mentee, or PEARL, for the duration of the program during the academic year.  Learn more about serving as a mentor below.  Interested in becoming  a mentor?

The Role

  • Have a desire to participate in the program.

  • Enrolled in grades 6-8 at the Oyster Bilingual School.

  • Parental or guardian agreement and ongoing support to participate.

  • Engage in a positive and respectful relationship with mentor and other mentees.

  • Share individual goals and program desires.

  • Participate in mentoring workshops.


Time Commitment

  • Commit to participate for the full program year (September - May).

  • Attend bi-monthly Saturday morning interactive workshops (90 minutes per session).

  • Engage in regular communication with mentor.

  • Build self empowerment and confidence.

  • Develop leadership through activities in a small and friendly setting.

  • Identify strategies to help achieve personal goals.

  • Participate in interactive workshops that promotes expression through art.

  • Become a part of of the PEARLS community including mentors, program leads, and other mentees.
